Robert Frost “After Apple-Picking” Poem Animation Movie
Heres a virtual movie of Robert Frost reading one of his best known poems “After Apple-Picking”.
In “After Apple-Picking” written in 1914 Frost takes an ordinary experience and transforms it into a meditative moment, a philosophical musing. Apple-picking slides gradually away from merely harvesting fruit to considering how life has been experienced fully but with some regrets and mistakes. The reference to winter coming on feels like the presence of mortalilty. The question about what kind of sleep to anticipate suggests untroubled oblivion or possibly some kind of new life just as the woodchuck reawakens to fresh life in the spring after his hibernation.

My long two-pointed ladder’s sticking through a tree
Toward heaven still,
And there’s a barrel that I didn’t fill
Beside it, and there may be two or three
Apples I didn’t pick upon some bough.
But I am done with apple-picking now.
Essence of winter sleep is on the night,
The scent of apples: I am drowsing off.
I cannot rub the strangeness from my sight
I got from looking through a pane of glass
I skimmed this morning from the drinking trough
And held against the world of hoary grass.
It melted, and I let it fall and break.
But I was well
Upon my way to sleep before it fell,
And I could tell
What form my dreaming was about to take.
Magnified apples appear and disappear,
Stem end and blossom end,
And every fleck of russet showing clear.
My instep arch not only keeps the ache,
It keeps the pressure of a ladder-round.
I feel the ladder sway as the boughs bend.
And I keep hearing from the cellar bin
The rumbling sound
Of load on load of apples coming in.
For I have had too much
Of apple-picking: I am overtired
Of the great harvest I myself desired.
There were ten thousand thousand fruit to touch,
Cherish in hand, lift down, and not let fall.
For all
That struck the earth,
No matter if not bruised or spiked with stubble,
Went surely to the cider-apple heap
As of no worth.
One can see what will trouble
This sleep of mine, whatever sleep it is.
Were he not gone,
The woodchuck could say whether it’s like his
Long sleep, as I describe its coming on,
Or just some human sleep.

Would apple picking be a good first date?
My friend says taking her out for a drink would be a better idea because she has an out. But my thought is we both like apple picking and we are one on one and we can get to know each other.

Where is a good place to go apple picking in North Jersey or any where upstate NY? Looking for somewhere nice to go. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Where to go apple picking near Manhattan?
Are there any good places for apple picking less than two hours from Manhattan? Preferably going north into Westchester or Connecticut.
Hurd’s Farm near New Paltz — Ulster County — about One Hour 45 Minutes from Manhattan. I know of no places in Westchester or CT.
Also if you play golf, you can do that and get apples to at Apple Greens Golf Course in Highland

The house behind mine has a tree full of em! Just don’t get caught while picking. He is a crazy guy. Kids around the block said that he eats his dogs… which is weird because he has had many different dogs and you only see them for a short while. It’s the only blue house for miles.

Does anyone know of a good place to go near the chicagoland area? (suburbs like sugar grove, dekalb etc. some place that has apple picking, pumpkins, cider and hay rides)
I’ve only eaten there, but I know the "Apple Holler" restaurant up Rt. 41 has all that (1st site below). I know apple season is just starting. 2nd site has orchards you can contact–different apple types come into season at different times, you may want to contact some orchards…I don’t know how current list is though, but must not change too much:
